this week we're delighted to bring a mix by none other than prins thomas. famed the world over for his label full pupp, his legendary work with lindstrom and his vast array of remixes & productions, mr thomas is a firm favourite round these parts (his masterful remix of jape's 'floating' was steve's favourite tune of 2007) and so we were very excited about the news of his forthcoming debut solo album.

recorded on a wave of inspiration following the completion of the last lindstrom & prins thomas long player II, the self-titled album swims in the currents that prins is so rightly well regarded for - a groove filled mix of disco, krautrock, house and balaeric tinted pop. you can get the record (released on full pupp) from march 29th at your favourite local record store.

to celebrate this friday the 12th full pupp take over corsica studios (still one of the best venues in london) for an album launch shindig. joining prins for the ekstravaganza 3 party are full pupp labelmate espen haa and hamburg's tensnake who will be playing live. you can get the full details for what promises to be a first class night out here.

this week we've got a classic mix from a couple of dance heavy hitters who've come together under the banner of darkstarr to create an unstoppable disco behomoth: dj cosmo & ashley beedle.

cosmo describes herself as dj, broadcaster, producer, remixer, record label owner and party host who doesn't play safe, which is putting it mildly. with her wide ranging delectable dj sets, her monthly radio show cosmodelica (check it out on the ever brilliant samurai fm), wild rumpus- her coloboration with former beefheart guitarist gary lucas and her role as co-director of the lucky sound system collective (which brings david mancuso to these shores four times a year) cosmo is a key player in the current dance scene and rightly so.

mr beedle is no slouch himself of course with a career now entered in its fourth decade which has taken in the a djing in the heady days of acid house, classic productions with black jazz chronicles, the ballistic brothers, and x-press 2, countless remixes and no less than three labels. cv's like that do tend to make you feel a little lazy.

the pairs mission as darkstarr is to "put the funk and soul back into the party" by reviving celebrated new york / london traditions, bringing the vibe to dancefloors across the uk and beyond.

this mission continues with the start of a regular darkstarr party at holloway road's horatia on march the 13th which serves well as a launch party for the release on their remix of ashley's new project mavis ft candi staton (check it out on the mix). the limited 10" comes out on cosmo's own bitches brew label on march 15th with silk screened jackets and hand stamped label. just another example of the love and dedication these two put into all their musical endevours including this mix.

starting on saturday 27th march we'll be taking over the big chill house in king's cross every couple of months to bring you a night of detroit techno, chicago house, berlin cold wave and more electronic dance music archaeology. as well as allez-allez and xxjfg dj selections we intend to bring you live sets from some of the key purveyors of this sound starting this month with a rare outing from legowelt and his fuzzy analogue synth jam.

the night is free before 10 and for the non-early birds door tax is a very reasonable £5. we're very excited about this night and can't wait to see you down there.

but back to this week. tomorrow night brings the latest installment of border community's fabulous corsica studios residency, as always it's an impeccably selected line up including dj sets from label boss james holden, fuck buttons's andrew hung, avus, kate wax and petter, and live shenanigans from falling from cloud 9 and ed chamberlain. we played at the opening party there and have been down to several of the subsequent ones, and all have been memorable, magical nights, so we urge you to go along and get involved - if you haven't been out raving for awhile, this could be the night to dust off those dancing shoes and get involved!

this week we're treated to a selection by the self-proclaimed defender of 'spooky house and cursed techno', clement meyer.

clement has been making a strong name for himself for some years now as part of the get the curse family. gtc started life as an excellent blog that is home to podcasts and playlists from the great and good of this dance thing of ours. contributors include solomon, lo soul, ivan smagghe and our good selves. online life leaked into the real with the launch of get the curse parties in paris that saw clement and his pals joined by the likes of andrew weatherall, superpitcher and francios k.

now they've taken things to their inevitable conclusion with the launch of get the curse music a vinyl and digital record label and handily their first release is by none other than mr clement meyer. his 'midnight madness' is available now and is a feast of dancefloor darkness dubbed by weatherall as 'the best techno tracks i've heard this year.' get it here.

this week we have a mix by living legend bill brewster made to celebrate the recent 'blank generation' compilation released by the good bods at strut and djhistory.com (bill & frank broughton's essential website).

'blank generation' is a celebration of the work of new york producer bob blank. mr blank opened his blank tapes recording studios in the new york of 1973 just in time for it to become a hub for the burgeoning artistic scene centered around manhattan. during its lifetime legend after legend passed through the studio doors including ze records royalty august darnell, christina & the aural exciters. disco genius patrick adams also cut many a track there as well as stellar outfits such as instant funk and salsoul orchestra.

blank tapes has arguably become latterly most associated with arthur russell and the disco related work he did as dinosaur l, indian ocean and felix and, most notably for blank himself, the classic 'wax the van' recorded with his wife lola. tim lawrence's outstanding biography 'hold onto your dreams' details blank and russell's colobaration in loving detail and is essential reading for anyone with even a passing interest of the music of the era. buy it.

'blank generation' collects various fine pieces of work made during bob's time at blank tapes including many of the tracks on this mix. you can pick up the compilation direct from the djhistory website and if bought before the end of february includes another extended brewster mix. go get.

this week we return once again to one of our favourite places to visit - the varied and inspiring world of lo recordings' jon tye. this time round we're shining a light on jon's work with artist pete fowler on the mirco-label space weather sounds whose mission statement is to be "a micro-psychronesial label set up to release esoteric material by various artists and fried guises." accordingly the labels first release (by jon & pete under the moniker monster at work) was a soundtrack to zombie movie they have yet to see issued on a extremely limited run of forty c60 cassettes.

the second release has recently escaped into the world under the name of 'illusion ship' and is made up of four extended pieces and described as "like whitehouse meets early tangerine dream." there are only 50 of these rare beasts in existance so we'd hop you can hunt them down. here's the wonderful 'music for spaceports' mix to soundtrack your search.

this week we have a brilliant wide ranging mix from the curator of hotflush recordings - scuba. hotflush was one of the original dubstep labels and was responsible for some of the key releases during the genre's early days.

scuba (real name paul rose) took the well trod path from london to berlin a few years back, a move which influenced the sound of his acclaimed debut mutual antipathy (keep an eye out for the new scuba album 'triangulation' arriving at the end of march) and his house/techno alter ego SCB.

the city also hosts his phenominally succesful SUB:STANCE night at the home of techno berghain where alongside paul fowler he has been preaching from the pulbit of bass since 2008. the night is set to release its first mix cd 'sub:stance 01' on ostgut ton next week - get the full info here. until monday though this mix will take to the furthurest reaches of what makes scuba tick.

we've got something very special this week with a very appropriate mix for this time of year from the wonderful miss dinky aka dinky aka alejandra iglesias.

the chilean born producer and dj is well known under her dinky guise for her experimental house and techno releases on key labels such as cocoon and wagon repair. you can pick up last years' anemik album on the latter here and look out for her 'dinky on the mix' cd due to arrive on cocoon in march as well as an ep on horizontal records named amanda (you can sample the b-side over at her website).

but today we concern ourselves with her miss dinky persona which uses for her more ambient projects starting with release on the great traum records way back in 1999. her inspiration for this mix was berlin where she now lives and "how beautiful this city looks when is snows and how silent everything becomes as the snow is a natural sound blocker." that beauty is perfectly in encapsulated in this stunning mix.

welcome back! 2010 is upon us and we're starting remarkable style with a mix from the man responsible for one of the best ep of last year. rebolledo was born and raised in xalapa, mexico where he started dj-ing 2002. as resident of club night santanera he came into contact with one matias aguayo (responbile for a truly outstanding set for us at cargo last month) who took an interest in rebolledo's nascent material and gave him help in shaping and indeed releasing it on his commeme label. one of the results being the aforementioned ep guerrero - a funky, drummy, cacaphonous joy of a record that you should buy NOW (check out the brilliant video here if you don't believe us).

we reckon he's is set be one of the men of this year so keep your eyes peeled for his upcoming work included his remix for pional coming out on hivern records shortly. until then sample his dj skills with this choice compact mix (which include some unreleased aguayo gold). GUERRERO!!

this week's ace mix comes courtesy of the fine chop shop collective. run by a group of 4 music lovers based in dalston, their playlist includes musical genres from across the world: 96/97 hip hop, detroit techno, cumbia, boogie and dancehall to name a few. chop shop have thrown a number of sporadic parties throughout the year including: bbqs on balconies, basements of peruvian restaurants, multi storey carparks.

but the one that we're most excited about is their upcoming NYE party for which sam will be the main guest dj. taking place at the new ? bar in stoke newington, (recently opened by the people who brought you mustache bar in dalston), if you're at a loose end please do come along and join the party it's going to be very special. they've promised a turkish buffet, an out door smoking area and live music - what more could you ask for!? this week we've delighted to have a mix from one of our favourite artists of the last few years - axel willner aka the field. axel has had a fantastic year taking in the release of his sophmore album 'yesterday & today' followed by an seemingly endless tour round the world with his impressive live band - which you'll remember shook the rafters off cargo at our night there back in april.

this week's contributor, lopazz, will be familiar to those dancefloor fiends that keep a watchful ear on what get physical is up to. however, he is more than a simple four to the floor merchant as his colourful 2007 album 'kook kook' ably demonstrated.

his latest project moves him away from the dancefloor and focuses on another string to his bow. as the name may suggests 'ambient film themes vol2' is the second in a series of compilations focusing on music lopazz has composed for films and documentaries over the past decade with steffab 'casio casino' neuert . these more orchestral pieces still come laced with funky electronic beats and are blended throughout the album with field recordings from mumbai, mongalia and macao amongst other stops on lopazz's travels. a perfect album for a more sedate mood (get it here) which is matched in this superlative mix they have put together for us. take of a load and enjoy - its almost the holidays.

this weeks selection comes from a man dubbed by mixmag as "madlib and j dilla meets boards of canada" which is more than enough to make us stand up and pay attention. paul white has been hoovering up plaudits like that with his skewed take on hip-hop, bass heavy beats and leftfield sounds for the last couple of years. fans of his releases on one handed music include diplo, gilles peterson and mary anne hobbes. he is currently readying his next album 'paul white and the purple brain' for release on stones throw's sister label now-again in the new year.

podcast subscribers may notice a little extra nugget in this weeks feed. one of our favourite artists jesse somfay has remixed the debut allez-allez cut 'defeatist' and turned it into a woozy ten minute epic that we felt you couldn't be without. it is available to all podcast subsribes now - if you've now done so you can join the feed here.

on saturday the 12th december we get back in the saddle after being rudely knocked off by an over-zealous roadworker who killed all the power in cargo and we've got a terrific bill for our return.

joining us is man of the moment matias aguayo. he has long been one of the jewels in kompakt's crown with his solo work and releases with broke and closer musik. 2008 has definitely been his year with the launch of his comeme label (responsible for one of the eps - and videos of the year in rebolledo's guerrero) and the recent releases of his second solo album 'ay ay ay'. an utterly unique mixture of house, techno, latin and franky indescribable it is a key long player for 2009 and is likely to feature high in many end of year lists - especially ours. his live set is a loopy joy to behold and ideally suited to the party season.

also from the kompakt stable is our other guest shumi. a mainstay on the kompakt scene - this year he entered the production ring with his jump for joy ep on kompakt. we played with shumi at his legendary gruezi club and confirm as a dj he is the real deal. we're really excited about showing him off to the london crowd. and of course we'll be there provide our own mix of the weird, wonderful and danceable throughout the night.

we've just about picked ourselves up after the crushing dissapointment of the cancelled party last saturday helped in no small measure by this weeks wonderful mix by the legend that is rev milo speedwagon.

as well as being one of the nicest people in music milo is a killer dj with over 15 years experience behind the decks. his alternative selections of electronic pop, punk-funk and acid house music without a home have graced venues all other this globe from glastonbury to the swiss alps. he was doing the cargo thing long before us with the brilliant mish mash night back in the day. if your a bestival-goer then you may way have caught his breakfast shows on the festival radio station soothing you into another day of madness.

here he turns his attention to the weirder side of things with a selection that will (prog) rock you socks off. as he says:

we'd like to sincerely apologise to all those who turned up for the party at cargo on saturday to find the venue closed. there had been work done on the road outside which resulted in the cutting of a power cable and with it all the electricity in the building. becuase of this the night was cancelled.

we've been gutted about this since we found out late on saturday evening especially for losoul and heiko who travelled all the way to london for no reason in the end. we intend to have them back to play as soon as possible. once again we are very sorry.

its just over a week now until our playhouse party at cargo and to gear up we've got a mix from playhouse main man, and our guest on the night (alongside losoul), heiko schaefer.

heiko put this mix together especially for this party. its an all vinyl set and he's taken time out to fill us in on it some more.

"the mix is called 'you're the one'. i named it after one of my favorite tracks of all times by d-train - 'you're the one for me' which is included on the mix towards the end.

actually i was trying to bring some favorite tunes of mine together from the present and the past ranging from disco to house. so the first track (after the organ intro) by jackson jones
from 1980 and slides into a track by rainer trüby from 2009.
besides these 2 tracks and d-train you'll find tunes by pal joey (who really is one of my heroes), some timeless nu groove records, sounds by rheji burrell as utopia project, some classic westend sounds like shirley lites. also some sharon redd, visual or colonel abrams besides some present funky tunes by 6th borough project, motor city drum ensemble and norma jean bell.

simply dance music with backbone and SOUL."

this monday the 9th of november not only sees the vinyl release of the harmonia & eno '76 remixes ep on our label amazing sounds but its also a red letter day for us as we release the debut allez-allez single on kickboxer.

the track, 'defeatist', is a growling analogue peak time stormer that will be familiar to many from recent aa sets. on the digital release its backed with 'slump' a melancholic kraut epic that featured on our beats in space mix earlier this year. the ep also comes with a slamming remixes by border community's ricardo tobar, pozitive play and dorset naga. the tobar mix has already been rocking the crowds from the record boxes of none other than bc boss james holden and krautronica master four tet now for some time!

we are huge fans of the works of gavin russom rounds these parts. we become aware of the renaissance man, who works with sculpture and drawing as well as music, back in the early years of this decade when alongside delia gonzalez he produced the monumental 'days of mars' album on dfa. the four track ambient synth opus rocked our world and spun off two soundsystem melting classic remixes by dfa and carl craig.

this year mr russom went one furthur with the release of his 'black meteoric star' album which is pretty much a shoo-in for steve's album of the year. if you do not own this psychedelic acid drenched masterpiece yet then you are seriously falling asleep on the job. get it here now.

this week we’ve got a gorgeous low key mix from get physical artists raz ohara and the odd orchestra to celebrate the launch of their new opus II.

II is the follow up to their 2007 self titled debut and contains more avant-garde open hearted pop music aimed more for the after party (or the after after party) than the dancefloor.

the songs for this long player took form during a jam session raz and guitarist tom krimi had on tom’s outdoor terrace. taking this organic process to its natural conclusion the two took a jaunt outside the city to write and record in the countryside. these al fresco jams were then arranged and developed by raz with long time collaborator oliver doerell to give the finished product which hits shops on monday. you can order it here now.

the accompanying odd pod raz has compiles is in a similar vein and features many a an allez-allez favourite like tom waits and the godlike bill callahan. relax and dive in.

thanks to all that made in down to our third birthday celebrations at cargo – it was a roaring success with the usual storming set from nathan fake and some sublime djing from appleblim. at our next party on the 14th november we turn our attention to one of our favourite labels, the brilliant playhouse records.

since it's inception in 1993 (alongside sister labels klang electronik and ongaku music), by ata macias, heiko schafer and alter ego's roman flugel and jorn elling wuttke the playhouse aim has been to create "futuristic house-music, combining the timeless elements of old school house music with fresh science fiction ingredients". along the way they have given us classic releases from the likes of isolee, lindstrom, ricardo villalobos, alter ego, rework, melchior productions, daniel wang, international pony and roman flugel amongst many others, and the exquisite famous when dead compilation series which draws together a faultless collection of diverse and essential electronic music (see below for a list of our 5 playhouse morsels to check if you don't already know them).

one name virtually synonymous with the label is peter kremeir aka losoul. dubbed “the coolest m.f. in minimal house” by none other than kompakt's michael mayer, losoul’s tracks and remixes have been setting fire to dancefloors across the world for well over a decade. away from the studio he is an highly regarded dj, drawing music from different eras to create what he describes as a “timeless mood.” we are extremely chuffed and more than a little excited to be hosting one of these sets at cargo - check out his awesome recent mix for resident advisor here.

also along for the ride and putting the full rubber stamp on this as a playhouse night is label founder heiko schaeffer. clearly a man of faultless taste as the label roster proves, he is a dj of over 20 years and we our very proud that he will be joining losoul and ourselves on the decks for a rare london set. this is not to be missed.

seeland are an act on the ever reliable lo recordings founded out of the ashes of broadcast and plone back in 2004.

comprising tim felton and billy bainbridge, the duo formed amid the fallout from birmingham's retro futurist electronic - a group of musicians inspired the bbc radiophonic workshop, joe meek and 60's library music. taking their cue from these influences and sounds such as can, human league and syd barret's pink flloyd they fashioned their debut album 'tomorrow today' which came out this spring.

two glasgow based disco freaks, dj andrew gardiner & matthew aldworth (also known as creme de menthe) came together in the latter half of this decade over a shared love of italo and hi NRG to form den haan - an act guaranteed to get any party stomping like its 1983.

they've had releases on dissedent and optimo music - which is a mighty impressive start for anyone - and have remixed the likes of phenominal hand clap band and little boots. their live set is apparently a thing of wonder that we annoyingly keep missing but its due to hit europe with shows in st petersburg, moscow, berlin and sunny dundee.

the guys are currently in studio working on their next ep 'the heist', as well as working on production for ex unklejam singer tyson. whilst you wait you can sample of demo of the title track over at their myspace and get down and glitzy with this weeks primitive walk mix. they've not given us a tracklist for this one so spotters have at it.

we begin our journey into the physical world with a very special release - a remix package of our heroes harmonia & brian eno. it contains two reworkings by the ever excellent shackleton and appleblim & komonazmuk of tracks from the album 'track & traces'- a phenominal piece of work which recently resurfaced on groenland records.

we gave the dubstep icons their pick of songs from the record and the tracks the guys have come up with are both epic affairs that ease the retro futurism of harmonia & eno's compositions onto a tripped out 21st century dancefloor.

this week we've got a corker of a mix from our good friend scott edwards, more commonly known as avus. scott has clocked up an enviable amount of release of some of the most highly regarded labels around including klang, perc trax and border community as well as knocking out remixes for jesse somfay, james holden and recent AA contributor one little plane.
